it will be said here that spamming is the pursuit of warfare by other means.

if this statement is true, then a form of open warfare is erupting on the Twitter network.

The original agressors in this conflict are people operating Twitter  accounts that they use to generate messages tagged with keywords that are trending topics on Twitter.

The following diagram depicts the TweeterBrowser view of one such account and its immediate neighbours, that is, accounts following and being followed by this one..

A careful examination of the photographs associated with some of these accounts shows that some of the photographs have been used as the profile photograph of more than one account.

This is interesting.

It suggests that the operators of these accounts are interested in the same material, or are even affiliated with each other in some way.

Another interesting thing about these accounts photographs is that they are of a style that wouldn't look out of place on the cover of a pornographic dvd down at the adult movies store.

This is also interesting, because as we all know one prime objective of spammers is the sale of sex products and services.

The following diagram depicts the local twitspace of that same account after a few clicks have filled in the followers and friends of this account's followers

and friends.

The dieagram shows that this is a highly connected group, which is not an entirely unexpected result.

This diagram was generated by the TweeterBrowser social graph browser.
